Frame: A Revolutionary Approach to Space Division and Aesthetics

Kris Lin's Award-Winning Design Transforms a Sales Office into an Art Gallery

The design draws inspiration from the concept of a "frame structure." This structure serves two purposes: defining function and enhancing design aesthetics. The entrance foyer, a two-story open space, is partitioned using this concept, enhancing the tension and artistic sense of the space.

The project's unique properties lie in its location and design. Situated in a future Beijing-Tianjin comprehensive transportation hub, the project is expected to become a visual focus in the area. The design breaks the rigid cube shape, using shaped blocks and grilles to define space functions. The collision of light and materials of different shapes, colors, and textures creates a dramatic change, making the entire space feel like an art gallery in a box.

The design was realized through a careful understanding of guests' needs and the flow of people. When the sections are combined, staggered, and arranged, the sequence of the space is completed, making the overall space smoother. The polyline light belt above the sand table extends the area on the first floor, integrating design aesthetics and function perfectly.

The project, spanning 1200㎡, started in March 2019 and was completed in September of the same year. It was exhibited in Tianjin, China, where it was made. The project was divided into two floors: the first floor is the hall display area and the coffee recreation area, while the second floor is the VIP reception and office area.

Frame faced several design challenges, the most significant being the entrance foyer space. This two-story open space lacked any partitions. However, the concept of "frame structure" was adopted to solve the functional division of the space while enhancing the aesthetic design of the interior space.

The project's innovative design and unique approach to space division and aesthetics earned it the Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2020. This prestigious award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that illustrate outstanding expertise and innovation.
